Most drivers have been in the following situation: You’re approaching a toll plaza, some drivers are speeding up, some are slowing down, some don’t know where to go, and some are aggressively jockeying for position. When entering or leaving one of Delaware’s many toll plazas, it can pay to be extra careful. However, there are times when some drivers will be in the path of a negligent or reckless motorist and horrendous car accidents can result.
Earlier this month, a 31-year-old Virginia man was charged with DUI after slamming into other vehicles at a toll plaza on I-95. One of the cars hit by the man also slammed into another car, while yet another vehicle was struck by debris. The possible drunk driving accident was caught on video; the images depict the Virginia man’s car as entering the plaza at a very fast speed. Coming into a toll area, when there is so much variation in speed, a drunk driver or even a momentarily distracted driver can wreak havoc on their surroundings.
In this incident, four people were sent to the hospital for treatment for injuries. Property damage also occurred, as the toll booths sustained damage as well. In images from the scene a placard indicating the area’s ten-mile-per-hour speed limit can be seen.
Unfortunately, car accidents plague I-95 every day. While many are merely a hassle, it’s not unusual to pass by devastating or deadly wrecks on this local interstate. What can one do after a multi-vehicle accident? It’s important to determine liability for the crash and resulting damages so that accountability can be had. A Wilmington auto accident attorney can help a crash victim get back on their feet and obtain the compensation to which they are entitled.
