Regardless of how defensively you drive, a negligent driver can take you by surprise in the blink of an eye, leaving you no time to react. Tragically, many car accidents caused by negligent drivers result in innocent individuals either suffering serious injuries or losing their lives. Although it may seem like these serious accidents don’t occur all that frequently, the truth of the matter is that they are occurring in your neighborhood, on your commute to work, and on the same streets you drive to pick up your children.
Just look at the recent crash in Bear. There, seven individuals were injured after a head-on collision occurred between a car and a bus carrying senior citizens. The driver of the car was trapped in his vehicle, and it took firefighters almost 25 minutes to free him. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries to his head. The last report issued has him listed in critical condition.
Five people on the bus were also injured. Four passengers, ranging in age from their 70s to their 90s, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the bus driver was also treated for minor harm.
The exact cause of this accident is unknown at this time. However, given the circumstances, either the driver of the bus or the driver of the car likely veered into oncoming traffic. The investigation may reveal that one of the drivers was distracted, tired, or intoxicated, which would give rise to grounds for a negligence claim. This can be crucial, as the innocent victims in this accident could be dealt a serious physical, emotional, and financial blow that only a personal injury lawsuit and the recovery of compensation may remedy.
