Harrington, DE (April 27, 2022) – Authorities in Harrington were at the scene of a fatal crash on Wednesday, April 27th. The accident was reported at approximately 10:24 a.m. on South DuPont Highway near Tower Hill Road.
According to a report from the Delaware State Police, a 2017 Kenworth tractor-trailer was stopped in the left turn lane on DuPont. The truck tried to turn left across the southbound lanes of the highway and onto Tower Hill Road. As it turned, the truck entered the path of a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta traveling southbound on DuPont. The two vehicles collided with one another at the intersection.
The driver of the Jetta, an 18-year-old man from Dover, was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. His condition is not available at this time. A passenger in the Jetta, an 18-year-old Millsboro woman, died at the accident scene. The 65-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt. None of the victims have been identified at this time.
The road was closed for about four hours while an investigation was conducted. Motorists were asked to find an alternate route of travel. There is no word on any potential charges.
