New Castle, DE (May 9, 2022) – Multiple children and adults were hurt in a three-vehicle crash that involved a school bus on Monday in New Castle. The crash took place around 8:15 a.m. along West Commons Boulevard near the intersection with Reads Way.
Police and rescue workers were called to the scene just after the accident took place. According to a report, a white Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck was traveling northbound on West Commons when it came over a hill and collided with a black Ford Expedition that was stopped at the intersection. The Ford then struck a school bus from Academia Antonia Alonso. The bus was stopped at a red light when it was hit.
A total of 12 children, ages 5 to 10, were transported to a local hospital following the collision. The children’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. The bus driver and the driver of the Ford were also transported for non-life-threatening injuries. Following an investigation, the driver of the Chevy was issued a citation for inattentive driving.
The crash remains under investigation at this time. No further information has been released.
