Wilmington, DE (July 13, 2022) — According to sources, Delaware State Police are currently conducting an investigation into a fatal motorcycle collision that occurred on Tuesday night, July 12th. It happened on Newport Gap Pike (Route 41) in the Wilmington area.
Official reports state that at about 9:17 p.m., a black 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle was moving southbound on Newport Gap Pike (Rt 41). At the same time, a white 2014 Ford F-250 was going northbound and approaching the driveway of a private residence.
In an attempt to enter the driveway, the Ford turned left and entered the path of the Harley. The operator of the motorcycle applied brakes but ended up striking the right-side rear of the Ford.
Upon impact, the Harley traveled out of control into the northbound lane. A white 2015 Subaru Outback that was traveling northbound behind the Ford, also struck the motorcycle causing it to become lodged underneath it.
The driver of the Harley, a 30-year-old-male of Cochranville, PA, was ejected from his bike and pronounced dead at the scene. Identification of the victim is pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the Ford, a 58-year-old Wilmington man, was cited for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Both the operator of the Ford and the Subaru were uninjured following the collision.
Newport Gap Pike remained closed in both directions between Loveville Road and Millcreek Road for about four hours, while the crash was being investigated.
