Wilmington, DE (September 10, 2022) – An elderly woman lost her life in a two-vehicle crash in Wilmington on Friday afternoon, September 9th. The crash occurred just before 1:00 p.m. on Limestone Road.
Police say that the 87-year-old victim was a passenger in an SUV that was traveling southbound on Limestone Road near Arundel Drive. The driver of the SUV attempted to make a U-turn at an intersection but turned into the path of an oncoming vehicle. The woman was rushed to Christiana Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The 65-year-old female driver of the other vehicle was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the same hospital. The 20-year-old SUV driver suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital.
The victim’s name has not been released at this time pending notification of her next-of-kin. Officials have not said whether any charges will be filed. The road was closed for about three hours while police investigated. Motorists were advised to use caution in the area or to avoid the scene during that time.
