New Castle, DE (September 13, 2022) – Police in New Castle responded to the scene of a fiery collision on Tuesday, September 13th. The accident took place along Interstate 95 near US Route 202 around 6:30 a.m.
Police say that a pickup truck was traveling southbound on I-95 when it left the road and struck a piece of construction equipment. The truck then caught fire, causing a major backup near the scene of the collision. Paramedics rushed to the area to provide support for the injured victims. At this time, the complete nature and extent of the injuries for those involved are not known. The crash caused the road to be closed for more than seven hours while an investigation was conducted. Drivers were advised to find alternate routes of travel and to avoid the area if possible.
The road was later reopened just before 2:00 p.m. An investigation continues at this time.
