Laurel, DE (October 12, 2014) – The Delaware State Police was at the scene of a deadly pedestrian crash in Laurel on Tuesday night, October 11th. The accident was reported just before 10:00 p.m. on Route 13 near Chipmans Lane.
Troopers say that a 17-year-old female was operating a 2011 Chevy Malibu in the northbound lanes of Route 13. At the same time, a 36-year-old male pedestrian from Laurel was crossing the street. The Malibu driver failed to see the pedestrian in the roadway and the front left bumper of the car struck the man. The pedestrian, who was not identified pending family notification, died at the accident scene. There were no other individuals involved and no one else was hurt.
The highway was closed for approximately six hours while police investigated the collision. At this time, there is no word on whether any charges will be filed in connection with the accident. An investigation remains ongoing at this time.
