Rehoboth Beach, DE (January 23, 2023) – Officials with the Delaware State Police were dispatched to the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash in Rehoboth Beach on Sunday, January 22nd. It happened at around 7:20 p.m. on Coastal Highway at the Rehoboth Avenue Extension.
According to officials, a white 2013 Nissan Altima was traveling southbound on Coastal Highway. At the same time, a bicyclist was traveling on the southbound shoulder, and for unknown reasons, the cyclist and the Nissan collided with each other. The rider was thrown from his bike and landed in the median.
The Nissan driver fled the scene of the crash before police could arrive. He was later located and taken into custody by police. The bicycle rider, a 54-year-old man from Rehoboth Beach, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries. His identity has not been released at this time. There were no other vehicles or individuals involved in the accident.
