Felton, DE (February 12, 2023) – Troopers with the Delaware State Police arrived at the scene of a fatal crash on Saturday morning, February 11th. The accident was reported at approximately 10:30 a.m. in Felton on South Dupont Highway near the intersection with Midstate Road.
According to a report from troopers, a 2012 red Ford Focus was traveling northbound on Dupont Highway. At the same time, a white Acura RLX was stopped at a red light and was waiting to make a left turn onto the Dupont Highway. When the light turned green, the Acura began turning left as the driver of the Focus failed to stop at the right light, causing a T-bone collision between the two vehicles.
The driver of the Focus, a 25-year-old man from Smyrna, was not injured in the crash. The Acura driver, a 66-year-old Felton woman, was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The woman’s passenger, a 90-year-old man from Farmington, was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. The man’s identity has not been released at this time, pending family notification.
There were no other cars involved in the accident. Police shut down the roadway for approximately one hour while they investigated the collision. Charges are expected to be filed pending the outcome of the investigation. Anyone who has details on the crash is asked to contact the Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Fatal Car Accident in Felton
Traffic accidents take place across Delaware on a daily basis. Not every crash will result in injuries, but many of them will. In 2022, Delaware tied a record set in 1988 for most traffic fatalities reported in a single year. This occurred as 165 motorists lost their lives on Delaware’s roadways last year. This is a difficult number to accept as the streets and highways appear to be becoming less safe over time. The cause is unclear, but it is clear that most accidents take place due to negligent driving behavior.
Following a Delaware car accident, victims and family members can have certain legal rights. This includes the right to file a wrongful death claim if your loved one was killed in a crash that was not their fault. Delaware law allows these claims to be brought on behalf of deceased family members by their next of kin. A wrongful death claim should be pursued with the help of a skilled and experienced lawyer.
