Magnolia, DE (February 25, 2023) – Officials in the Magnolia area responded to reports of a serious collision on Friday, February 24th. The crash took place around 7:25 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Bay Road, just south of Trap Shooters Road.
According to multiple reports, a Chrysler minivan was traveling on Bay Road when the driver exited the road for unknown reasons. The Chrysler then entered the southbound lanes of Bay Road and collided head-on with a Mercedes that was traveling in the opposite direction. Both vehicles caught fire following the collision.
The 58-year-old male driver of the Mercedes and a 59-year-old female passenger suffered serious injuries in the crash. A Good Samaritan helped them out of the vehicle, and both were transported to a local hospital. The driver of the Chrysler, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the crash scene. An investigation is underway at this time. There is no word on what caused the Chrysler to travel the wrong way.
The road was closed for approximately three hours following the crash. Motorists were advised to find an alternate route of travel.
