Motorcycle Accidents in Delaware
Motorcycles are popular in Delaware. It is not uncommon to see riders out during this year, especially in the spring and summer months when the weather is warm. Unfortunately, while being a hobby for many, motorcycles also come with some serious risks. Although they generally make up less than 5% of all registered motor vehicles in Delaware, motorcycle fatalities account for 10 to 15% of all reported traffic fatalities in our state. Motorcyclists are very vulnerable to serious or fatal accidents when they are involved in a crash with a larger vehicle.
Some common injuries sustained by motorcyclists include broken bones, neck and spinal cord injuries, and head trauma. The injuries caused by a motorcycle crash can take a long time to heal, or they may even be permanent. There are some safety measures that riders can take, including wearing a helmet and following all traffic laws. Some crashes, however, are simply unavoidable. These are mainly accidents that are caused by other drivers.
