Police say that a white 201 BMW 540i was traveling southbound when it veered off the road and went into a drainage ditch. The car ket raveling southbound, striking a stop sign. The vehicle then veered left and went into the northbound lanes, where it struck a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox and 2020 Jeep Renegade. Police say that the 59-year-old female driver of the BMW suffered critical injuries and later died at a local hospital. The driver of the Equinox, a 65-year-old Lewes woman, was rushed to the hospital, where she also died as a result of her injuries. The Jeep driver, a 52-year-old woman from Milton, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The identities of the victims have not been released at this time. The northbound lanes of the highway were shut down while police investigated the crash and cleared the scene. There is no additional information available.
Anyone with any further details regarding the crash should contact the Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Car Accidents in Delaware
Delaware can be a dangerous place for motorists. Although the actual number of reported crashes may seem low for some states, when adjusted for per capita statistics, Delaware has one of the highest accident rates in the country. Last year, nearly 8,000 people suffered injuries in Delaware car accidents. Many of these victims were injured in crashes that were not their fault. It takes only a split second of negligent driving to end in a major accident.
