Investigators say that 59-year-old Mary Elicone was driving a white 2019 BMW 540i southbound on Coastal Highway. For unknown reasons, Elicone lost control of the vehicle and drove into a drainage ditch. The car then struck a stop sign before reentering the roadway and traveling into the northbound lanes. Once in the northbound lanes, the BMW hit a gray Chevrolet Equinox and a red Jeep Renegade.
The Equinox driver, 65-year-old Suzanne Misener of Lewes, suffered critical injuries. Misener was rushed to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Elicone was also rushed to the hospital and later succumbed to her injuries as well. The driver of the Jeep, who was not identified, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The road was partially blocked while an investigation was conducted. Motorists were asked to find alternate routes of travel.
The accident remains under investigation at this time. Anyone with any details or who witnessed the accident is asked to contact the Delaware State Police.

Deadly Car Accidents in Delaware
A fatal car accident takes place very suddenly and unexpectedly. When you have lost a loved one due to a crash, there is nothing that compares to the hurt and devastation that you are feeling. This is especially true if your loved one was killed in a traffic accident that was not their fault. Unfortunately, approximately 160 motorists are killed in Delaware car accidents annually.
