Middletown, DE (May 25, 2023) – Police in Middletown responded to the scene of a deadly car accident on Wednesday night, May 24th. The crash took place just after 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of Warwick Road and Middlneck Road.
According to a report from the Delaware State Police, a 57-year-woman from Virginia Beach, VA, was driving a Mercury Grand Marquis on Warwick Road. At the same time, a 24-year-old man from Townsend was traveling in the opposite direction. One of the vehicles traveled across the center line, colliding head-on with the other vehicle. Both drivers and their passengers were taken to a local hospital, where the 24-year-old Townsend man died from his injuries.
The Mercury driver and her passenger were treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. No one involved in the accident has been identified at this time. There is no word on what caused the crash to occur.
The road was closed for about seven hours while an investigation was conducted. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and to find an alternate route of travel during this time.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Delaware State Police or Delaware Crime Stoppers. No further information is available.
