According to troopers, a 2021 Jeep Wrangler was traveling westbound on Seashore Highway. At the same time, a 2013 Dodge Avenger was following behind the Jeep. For unknown reasons, the Jeep left its lane of travel and crossed the double-yellow line. While in the eastbound lanes, the Jeep sideswiped an oncoming Chevrolet Silverado. The Jeep then continued traveling eastbound and collided with the Avenger.
The Jeep overturned, and the Avenger spun several times before coming to rest. The 49-year-old female Jeep driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital. The driver and passenger of the Silverado were not injured. The Avenger driver, a 20-year-old man, died at an area hospital. It is believed that he was the son of the Silverado occupants, although his name has not been released at this time. A 19-year-old female passenger in the Avenger was treated at a hospital for serious injuries.
The crash caused the road to be closed for about four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared. There is no word on what caused the Jeep to leave its lane of travel.
The Delaware State Police are reconstructing the accident at this time. Anyone with details should contact troopers. No additional information has been released.
