Wilmington, DE (July 19, 2023) – Police in Wilmington were called to the scene of a fatal car accident on Tuesday afternoon, July 18th. The accident took place around 5:00 p.m. at the intersection of West Fourth Street and North Dupont Street.
Officials say that two cars were involved and that the collision happened in the intersection. When authorities arrived, they found 22-year-old Maryiuri Paola Cortes Padilla suffering from critical injuries. Paramedics rushed Padilla to a local hospital but she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Five other victims, a 32-year-old woman, a 27-year-old woman, a 26-year-old woman, a 10-year-old boy, and a 3-year-old boy, were injured in the crash. All of the other injured victims were listed in stable condition at the hospital.
There is no word on how the accident took place at this time. Police have not said if any charges will be filed.
An investigation is ongoing and there is no further information available at this time.
