Churchmans Marsh, DE (July 20, 2023) – A Delaware State Police trooper was among multiple injured victims following a car accident in Churchmans Marsh. The crash took place on Wednesday, July 19th, in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95.
According to a report, a trooper in a marked SUV activated his lights to conduct a traffic stop on a BMW sedan. The sedan pulled over to the right shoulder and came to a stop. The trooper then pulled in behind the sedan. While both cars were on the shoulder, a Ford Taurus crashed into the back of the SUV, causing it to shoot forward and collide with the BMW.
The BMW driver, a 26-year-old man, was taken to Christiana Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 31-year-old female driver and 34-year-old male passenger in the Taurus were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The trooper was also injured, and his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
Police are still investigating the accident. It is believed that the Taurus driver traveled onto the shoulder in order to pass other traffic. The driver is now facing multiple charges.
No one involved in the crash has been identified. An investigation is ongoing at this time.
