Delmar, DE (July 31, 2023) – The Delaware State Police were called to the scene of a fatal collision in Delmar on Monday, July 31st. The crash happened around 6:15 a.m. on Sussex Highway near West Snake Road.
According to a DSP report, a 1998 Chevy Monte Carlo was southbound and a black 2012 Toyota Camry were traveling northbound on Sussex Highway. At the same time, a black 2006 Chevrolet Impala was traveling behind the Camry. For reasons unknown, the Monte Carlo moved left and traveled into the grass median. The vehicle crossed the road and went into the northbound lanes where it struck the front of the Camry. Both the Camry and the Monte Carlo rotated following the crash and struck the front of the Impala.
The Monte Carlo driver, a 19-year-old Seaford man, suffered critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. The Camry driver, a 51-year-old Delmar woman, was also rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The 64-year-old Impala driver, from Salisbury, Maryland, was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police shut down the road for about four hours while they investigated the crash. There is no word on what caused the accident at this time and the victims have not been identified.
