Pedestrian Accidents in Delaware
Pedestrians are, unfortunately, among the most vulnerable accident victims. According to statistics, about 80% of all Delaware pedestrian crashes result in injuries. It is also true that pedestrians are far more likely than other types of crash victims to suffer serious injuries and even death. The reason is fairly clear as pedestrians have little protection from the impact of a crash. Even traveling at low speeds, the impact of a crash happens suddenly and with tremendous force. Broken bones, head trauma, and internal injuries are common results of a pedestrian collision.
Following the accident, police will take a close look at what may have caused the crash to occur. The investigation will include surveying the scene, taking pictures, and speaking with any witnesses to the crash. Many Delaware pedestrian accidents result from negligent or careless drivers and could have been prevented through the use of ordinary care and caution.
If you or a family member have been injured in a pedestrian accident, knowing your legal rights is the most important step you can take. Under Delaware law, pedestrian crash victims can be entitled to compensation for their injuries. This includes lost wages, pain and suffering, medical bills, and possibly more.
