Authorities were called to the scene just after 12:00 p.m. in response to reports of the collision. According to police, an 87-year-old man was traveling south on Bay Road near Thompsonville Road. The man was operating a compact Cub Cadet tractor. The tractor was equipped with a front-end loader and a bush hog attached to the back. For unknown reasons, the tractor veered into the right lane and struck the side of a 2019 Freightliner cement pump truck driven by a 45-year-old man.
The impact of the crash caused the tractor to flip and break in half. The 87-year-old man was ejected and landed in the grass median. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The 45-year-old cement truck driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No one else was involved in the accident.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident at this time. There is no further information available.
