Felton, DE (September 16, 2023) – Police in Felton have now identified the victim of a fatal crash that happened earlier this week. The accident occurred on Wednesday, September 13th around 7:30 a.m.
Police say that a 2016 Volvo truck was pulling a trailer while traveling on Sandtown Road. The Volvo came to a stop sign at the intersection with Burnite Mill Road. At the same time, a 2003 Ford F65 was traveling on Burnite Mill approaching Sandtown. The Volvo turned onto Burnite Mill and into the path of the Ford, causing a collision between the two vehicles. The Ford and Volvo left the road and both vehicles came to rest in a soybean field following the crash.
The driver of the Ford died in the collision. Authorities have now identified the victim as 44-year-old Justin Zacheis of Woodside. The Volvo driver, a 48-year-old Bear mn, was not hurt in the crash. No other individuals were involved.
The road was closed for about 5 hours while authorities investigated. At this time, there is no word on whether any charges will be filed. The accident remains under investigation and there is no additional information available.
