Newark, DE (September 22, 2023) – Troopers with the Delaware State Police were at the scene of a fatal crash on Thursday afternoon, September 21st. The accident happened around 5:00 p.m. on Otts Chapel Road near the intersection with Welsh Tract Road.
Police say that a 66-year-old man from Newark was operating a gold 2008 Honda Accord southbound on Otts Chapel Road. The man attempted to pass another vehicle on the shoulder as the vehicle left the roadway. When the Honda emerged back onto the road, it traveled left of center and collided head-on with a northbound 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. The crash caused the Chevrolet to spin before coming to rest. The Honda came to rest on nearby private property.
The 66-year-old Honda driver, who was not identified, died in the crash. The driver of the Silverado, a 55-year-old Fallston, Maryland man, was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. There were no other vehicles involved.
The Delaware State Police are investigating the accident. Anyone with information is asked to contact troopers. No further details are available at this time.
