New Castle, DE (October 1, 2023) – Police in New Castle have identified the victim of a fatal pedestrian accident that took place on Thursday, September 28th. The crash happened just after 2:00 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near State Route 141.
According to the Delaware State Police, 59-year-old Hector Hernandez, of Wilmington, was walking along the northbound lanes of I-95 when was was struck by a northbound tractor-trailer. Hernandez came to rest in the center lane of the highway following the impact. The driver of the tractor-trailer did not stop after striking Hernandez.
Paramedics and rescue workers arrived on scene and pronounced Hernandez dead as a result of his injuries. The road was closed for about three hours while the crash was investigated and the road was cleared. There is no word on whether police are still looking for the driver of the tractor-trailer.
No further information has been released at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
