Smyrna, DE (October 30, 2023) – The Delaware State Police were dispatched to the scene of a hit-and-run collision on Monday morning, October 30th. The crash was reported just after 2:00 a.m. on Wheatleys Pond Road.
According to a preliminary report, a green 2012 Ford F-150 was traveling eastbound on Wheatleys Pond, near Bryn-Zion Road. At the same time, a 2011 Lincoln Town Car was traveling westbound on the same road. For unknown reasons, one of the vehicles crossed the center line and collided head-on with the other. Afer the crash, the Lincoln veered off the road and rolled onto the driver’s side where it then became engulfed in flames. The F-150 left the road and struck a utility pole before coming to rest in the grass.
The Lincoln driver was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the F-150 fled the area and has not been apprehended at this time. Police did not immediately identify the deceased victim.
The Delaware State Police remained at the scene for several hours. An investigation is ongoing at this time. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the DSP.
