Bear, DE (November 20, 2023) – Troopers with the Delaware State Police responded to the scene of a major car accident on Saturday afternoon, November 18th. The crash took place just after 4:00 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Pulaski Highway near the intersection with Bear Christiana Road.
According to authorities, a white 2017 Toyota RAV-4 and a black 2011 Nissan Altima were both traveling in the middle lane of the highway. At the same time, a red 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling in the inner left turn lane. As the Chevrolet approached the intersection, the driver failed to stop at a red light and turned left into the path of the Toyota. The two cars collided with each other, causing a chain reaction crash with the Nissan.
Paramedics and rescue officials responded to the scene. A 65-year-old woman from Bear who was a front-seat passenger in the Toyota was rushed to the hospital for treatment but later succumbed to her injuries. The Toyota driver, a 60-year-old Wilmington man, was admitted to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The Chevrolet driver, a 61-year-old New Castle man, suffered serious injuries, while the driver and two occupants of the Nissan were not hurt.
No one involved in the crash has been identified at this time. Police closed the road for approximately 4 hours while they cleared the scene and investigated the accident. There is no further information available at this time.
