Bear, DE (November 23, 2023) – Troopers with the Delaware State Police have identified the victim of a fatal car accident that took place in Bear on Sunday. The collision happened just after 4:00 p.m. on Pulaski Highway near the intersection with Bear Christiana Road.
According to reports from police, a white Toyota Rav-4 and a black 2011 Nissan Altima were both traveling westbound on Pulaski Highway. At the same time, a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling in the left turn lane of the highway. The driver of the Chevrolet failed to stop for the red turn signal and made a left turn directly into the path of the Toyota Rav-4. The Nissan collided with the Toyota and the Chevrolet following the initial impact.
A front seat passenger in the Toyota, 65-year-old Darlene Denson-Simmons, of Bear, was rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. The Toyota driver was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Chevrolet driver was treated for serious injuries. The Nissan driver and two occupants were not hurt. Police closed the road for about four hours while they investigated. There is no word on any potential charges at this time. No further details are available.
