Bear, DE (December 23, 2023) – Police in the Bear area responded to the scene of a fatal pedestrian crash on Thursday night, December 22nd. The accident in the westbound lanes of the Pulaski Highway near the Gleen Motel.
According to the Delaware State Police, 40-year-old Steven Wilkerson, of Bear, was walking across the Pulaski Highway when he was hit by an orange Hyundai that was traveling eastbound. Wilkerson suffered critical injuries and later succumbed to his injuries at an area hospital. The driver of the Hyundai, a 50-year-old New Castle woman, was not hurt. Her identity has not been released at this time. There were no other vehicles or individuals involved in the crash.
The eastbound lanes of Pulaski Highway were closed for more than two hours while the crash was investigated. Drivers were advised to avoid the area and to fine alternate routes of travel during this time. The Delaware State Police are still investigating the accident. No further information has been released.
