Newark, DE (February 17, 2024) – The Delaware State Police responded to the scene of a two-car accident in Newark on Friday morning, February 16th. The crash was reported around 5:30 a.m. on East Chestnut Hill Road at the intersection with Augusta Drive.
According to authorities, a red 2019 Kia Forte was traveling westbound on Chestnut Hill when the driver tried to make a left turn onto Augusta Drive. As the Kia made its turn, it collided with a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox that was traveling eastbound on Chestnut Hill. Both cars sustained heavy property damage in the collision. The driver of the Kia, a 73-year-old Newark woman, was rushed to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The Equinox driver, an 18-year-old Newark man, was transported to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Neither driver has been identified at this time.
The road was closed for about four hours while police investigated the crash. There is no word on whether any charges will be filed. An investigation is ongoing. No further information is available.
