Newark, DE (May 1, 2024) – Police in the Newark area are investigating after a deadly accident on Wednesday, May 1st. The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on eastbound Capitol Trail near the intersection with Brewster Drive.
According to a report from the Delaware State Police, a silver 2014 Toyota 4Runner was traveling eastbound on Capitol Trail near the intersection with Brewster Drive. At the same time, a white 2006 Cadillac DTS was traveling northbound on Brewster Drive approaching the Capitol Trail intersection. For unknown reasons, the Toyota failed to stop at a red traffic light and entered the intersection at the same time as the Cadillac. The front of the Toyota struck the left side of the Cadillac. The Cadillac driver, a 61-year-old Newark man, was taken to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. His name is being withheld pending family notification. The Toyota driver, a 22-year-old Newark man, was not hurt. The road was closed for about four hours while the crash was investigated and the scene was cleared. Charges are pending the outcome of an investigation. There is no additional information available.
