Georgetown, DE (October 12, 2024) – A fatal car crash occurred on Friday, resulting in the death of a young man. The incident took place at approximately 2:33 p.m. when Delaware State Police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Hardscrabble Rd near Landfill Ln.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a Peterbilt 567 roll-off container truck was traveling westbound on Hardscrabble Rd while a Nissan Sentra approached from the east. As the Peterbilt initiated a left turn onto Landfill Ln, it entered the path of the Sentra. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the Sentra swerved to the right, but the front of the Sentra struck the front left side of the truck.
The driver of the Sentra, a 20-year-old man from Georgetown, was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family. The driver of the Peterbilt, a 30-year-old man from Seaford, was reported to be uninjured in the incident.
Emergency services, including ambulances and fire crews, responded promptly to the scene to assist in the extrication of the vehicles and to control traffic. Firefighters worked to clear debris and ensure the safety of all responders. Hardscrabble Rd was closed for approximately four hours while authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the scene.
