New Castle, DE (October 14, 2024) – A fatal multi-car crash occurred early Saturday morning, resulting in the death of one driver and injuries to another. According to the Delaware State Police, the incident took place on October 12 at approximately 4:18 a.m. on I-95 near Churchmans Marsh.
Preliminary investigations reveal that a 45-year-old man from Bear, DE, was driving a Hyundai Tucson southbound in the right center lane when the accident occurred. Simultaneously, a 29-year-old man from New Castle, DE, was operating a Kia Forte in the right lane alongside the Hyundai. A 61-year-old man from Mineral Point, WI, had pulled his Freightliner bucket truck onto the right shoulder of I-95 to check on his vehicle.
For reasons still under investigation, the Kia entered the right shoulder and collided with the stationary bucket truck. The impact caused the Kia to rebound into the center lane, where it struck the Hyundai. Tragically, the driver of the Kia was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Hyundai was fortunate to be uninjured in the crash. However, the driver of the bucket truck was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency responders, including firefighters, were on the scene to assist with the extraction of the vehicles and to control traffic. Ambulances transported the injured driver for further medical attention. As of now, the deceased victim has not been identified by officials.
