Newark, DE (October 18, 2024) – A fatal two-car crash occurred on Friday, October 18, leaving one man dead and prompting an investigation by the Delaware State Police. The incident took place around 7:11 p.m. at the intersection of Paper Mill Road and Polly Drummond Hill Road.
According to the Delaware State Police, a Toyota Avalon was traveling southbound in the left turn lane on Paper Mill Rd when it began to make a left turn. Simultaneously, a Nissan Rogue was heading northbound, and both cars entered the intersection. The front of the Nissan struck the front of the Toyota, causing the Nissan to overturn after hitting a curb and colliding with a traffic signal pole. Emergency responders transported the 82-year-old driver of the Toyota to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending family notification. The 25-year-old driver of the Nissan and a 3-year-old child were also taken to the hospital but sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The scene was managed by local authorities, who controlled traffic and assisted with the removal of the vehicles. The road was closed for approximately six hours as the investigation continued.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased during this overwhelming time.
