Wilmington, DE (December 9, 2024) – A tragic two-car crash occurred on Thursday morning in Wilmington, leaving one woman dead and two others injured. The incident took place at approximately 10:20 a.m. at the intersection of Colony Blvd and E Lea Blvd, according to the Delaware State Police.
Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of a Honda Civic, a 32-year-old woman from Wilmington, attempted a left turn onto southbound E Lea Blvd from Colony Blvd. The Honda pulled into the path of a GMC Yukon traveling northbound on E Lea Blvd, causing a collision. The impact struck the driver’s side of the Honda.
The woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital by ambulance. Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries two days later on Saturday. Her name has not been released, and it is pending family notification.
A 28-year-old passenger in the Honda, also unrestrained, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital. The 36-year-old driver of the GMC Yukon, a Wilmington man, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Emergency response teams, including firefighters, assisted with the extraction of the vehicles and ensured the safety of all individuals involved. The Delaware State Police, along with other first responders, worked diligently to manage the scene and control traffic, ensuring minimal disruption while the investigation continued.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.
