Millsboro, DE (December 24, 2024) – A serious truck crash occurred Monday afternoon on Conaway Rd near Phillips Hill Rd, injuring three individuals and causing a significant fuel spill that shut down the roadway for several hours. The Delaware State Police (DSP) reported that the crash took place around 1:33 p.m. when a GMC Sierra, traveling south on Conaway Rd, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Kenworth roll-off truck heading north.
The impact of the collision caused the truck to veer off the road and land in a nearby ditch. The driver of the roll-off truck, a 46-year-old man from Houston, was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries. The driver of the GMC, a 75-year-old man from Millsboro, was flown to a hospital with serious injuries. An 86-year-old woman, a passenger in the GMC, was also injured and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Millsboro Fire Company responded to the scene to assist with vehicle extrication and the cleanup of the fuel spill. The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) also responded to the scene due to the hazardous fuel leak from the truck. Conaway Rd was closed for several hours as authorities investigated the crash and cleaned up the spill.
