Centreville, DE (December 25, 2024) – A fatal car crash occurred on the evening Tuesday on Thompson’s Bridge Rd near Centreville, leaving one man dead and another critically injured. Delaware State Police (DSP) are investigating the incident, which occurred around 7:30 p.m.
According to DSP, a Hyundai driven by a 22-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, along with another unidentified passenger, was traveling north on Thompson’s Bridge Rd when it crossed into the southbound lane. The Hyundai collided head-on with an oncoming Mazda. After the impact, the Mazda came to a stop near a tree line, while the Hyundai remained in the middle of the road. Moments later, a Kia struck the Hyundai.
DSP’s preliminary investigation revealed that after the initial collision, both occupants of the Hyundai were outside the vehicle when the 22-year-old man was struck by the Kia. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The other passenger in the Hyundai was transported by EMS with critical injuries. The driver of the Kia, a 31-year-old woman from Lincoln University, Pennsylvania, was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Mazda driver was unharmed.
Emergency responders, including Delaware State Police, fire departments, and paramedics, were quick to secure the scene and manage the flow of traffic during the investigation. The road was closed for approximately five and a half hours while authorities worked to clear the wreckage and complete their investigation.
