New Castle Co, DE (December 29, 2024) – A critical rollover truck crash occurred on Friday at approximately 1:40 p.m. on West Basin Rd near the North DuPont Hwy onramp, involving a dump truck. The impact left the truck’s driver, a 40-year-old male, critically injured and in need of immediate extrication.
Emergency units from multiple agencies, including the Goodwill Fire Company, Wilmington Manor Fire Company, Delaware Air National Guard Fire Department, Belvedere Fire Company, Minquas Fire Company, and New Castle County Paramedics, responded swiftly. Upon arrival, they found the dump truck overturned with the driver trapped inside. Firefighters worked for approximately 15 minutes to extricate the driver.
Once freed, the critically injured driver was transported by New Castle County Paramedics aboard a Goodwill ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton. Authorities reported that the driver sustained multiple injuries, including extremity injuries, head trauma, and potential internal injuries.
The Delaware State Police are investigating the cause of the crash. Authorities have not ruled out the involvement of another vehicle in the incident, which could have contributed to the rollover.
The crash caused significant traffic delays as emergency teams worked to clear the scene, and the roadway was temporarily closed for safety and investigation purposes.
