Bear, DE (January 2, 2025) – An injury fire broke out at the Fox Run Apartments, located on the 1000 block of Woodchuck Pl, on Wednesday afternoon, leaving five people injured, including two young children. The New Castle County Paramedics, along with the Christiana Fire Company and several mutual aid fire companies, were dispatched to the scene at 2:44 p.m. to manage the emergency response.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel confirmed an active fire in the building with multiple injuries. The injured individuals, including two children, were transported to Christiana Hospital in Stanton for treatment. An 8-month-old male suffered smoke inhalation and was transported in serious but stable condition. A 33-year-old female sustained smoke inhalation and was transported in serious but stable condition. A 5-month-old female was treated for smoke inhalation and transported in stable condition. A 20-year-old female with smoke inhalation was transported in stable condition. A 36-year-old male was transported in serious condition by a basic life support ambulance.
Firefighters from the Christiana Fire Company, along with additional crews from Delaware City, Claymont, Cranston Heights, Minquas, Port Penn, Belvedere, Good Will, and Wilmington Manor, worked quickly to control the fire and assist with the safe extraction of individuals from the building. Law enforcement agencies also managed traffic control to ensure a safe passage for emergency vehicles and minimize congestion in the surrounding area.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
