Newark, DE (May 15, 2022) – The Delaware State Police responded to the scene of a fatal accident on Saturday evening, May 14th. The crash happened around 9:55 p.m. on the Old Baltimore Pike near the intersection with Aspen Drive.
According to police, a 37-year-old Newark man was driving a Honda Accord westbound on Old Baltimore Pike. The Accord entered the left turn lane at the intersection before coming to a stop. The driver of the Accord then tried to make a left turn but came directly into the path of a Honda Ruckus scooter. The Ruckus struck the right side of the Honda and skidded before coming to rest.
Rescue crews arrived at the scene. The driver of the Rucks was rushed to an area hospital where he died from his injuries. His identity has not been released at this time. Following an investigation, police identified the driver of the Honda as Charles Entzminger. Entzminger was later arrested and charged with second-degree vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to yield the right of way, and failure to have insurance. Early indications are that alcohol played a role in the crash. Entzminger was booked into jail on the charges and is currently being held on bail.
The road was closed for about three hours while the crash was investigated. Motorists were advised to find alternate routes of travel during this time.
No further details have been released.
