New Castle, DE (June 1, 2022) – A passenger was killed in a crash that took place on Wednesday, June 1st in New Castle. The accident happened just after 2:00 a.m. on Route 13 near the exit for Basin Road.
According to Cpl. Jason Hatchell of the Delaware State Police, a 65-year-old man from Seaford was driving a 2017 Honda Pilot southbound on Route 13. The man was also hauling a U-Haul trailer at the time of the crash when he fell asleep and drifted onto the shoulder of the roadway. The car struck a raised curb and a road sign before rolling over and coming to rest on its roof. The vehicle ended up partially on the shoulder and partially in the travel lane.
Both the man and the woman were taken to a local hospital where they were treated for their injuries. The woman died at the hospital while the man was still being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Neither victim has been identified at this time.
The crash remains under investigation. There is no further information available.
