Delaware City, DE (June 21, 2022) — The Delaware State Police are investigating a freeway collision in Delaware City that occurred Sunday morning, June 19, according to the Public Information Officer, Senior Corporal Leonard DeMalto.
According to DeMalto, a white Chevy Cruze was traveling north on South Dupont Highway near Mid-County Drive. A 37-year-old female pedestrian from Philadelphia, PA was crossing South Dupont Highway, going from west to east, when she was hit by a Chevy Cruze.
The 24-year-old woman who was driving and the other passenger, also 24, were both wearing their seatbelts. Neither of the two women in the Cruze sought out medical attention at the scene.
The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was transported to the nearest hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. We are not currently capable of identifying the deceased pending completion of notification to the next-of-kin.
No other injuries were reported and the roadway was closed for a little over three hours while officials investigated and cleared the collision.
