Officials were called to the scene at Red Lion Road and Hunters Run Way. According to a report, 28-year-old John Aiken was riding a motorcycle on Hunters Run Way when he came to the intersection. As Aiken proceeded through the intersection, he collided with a 2015 Hyundai Sonata driven by a 31-year-old man from Elkton, MD. The Hyundai was making a left turn in front of the motorcycle at the time of the accident.
Aiken suffered critical injuries and died at the crash scene. It is unclear whether anyone else was hurt as a result of the accident. The driver of the Hyundai was not immediately identified.
Police are still continuing to investigate the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Delaware State Police. There is no additional information available.
We would like to offer our thoughts and condolences to the family of John Aiken following this deadly motorcycle accident in Bear.
Motorcycle Accidents in Delaware
Motorcycle accidents account for a substantial percentage of serious injuries and fatal accidents in Delaware each year. Riders should be especially vigilant when traveling through intersections. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 70% of motorcycle accidents take place at intersections. The reasons for this are unknown, but it may be more difficult to see motorcycles traveling through intersections. Drivers may fail to yield, causing a serious accident to take place.
