According to an initial report, a total of five vehicles were involved in the collision, including a blue 2017 Honda CR-V, a black Chevrolet pickup truck, a black BMW, a green Toyota Prius, and a white Ford F-150. Police say that the crash happened when the driver of the pickup truck failed to stop at a flashing red light and slammed into the back of the CR-V. The CR-V then collided with the BMW, causing a chain reaction involving the Prius and the Ford F-150.
The CR-V driver, a 58-year-old man from Bethesda, Maryland, was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. A 23-year-old female passenger in the CR-V was also transported for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The BMS driver and passenger both suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were also hospitalized. No additional injuries were reported.
Following an investigation, police charged the driver of the Chevrolet pickup with several offenses, including vehicular assault, reckless driving, driving without a license, driving after consuming alcohol, and disregarding a traffic control device. Further investigation remains ongoing at this time.
