Middletown, DE (August 9, 2023) – The Delaware State Police were called to the scene of a serious crash on Tuesday evening, August 8th. The accident took place just before 11:00 p.m. on Summit Bridge Road near the intersection with Armstrong Corner Road.
According to police, a blue 2003 Harley Davidson was traveling on Summit Bridge Road when the rider tried to pass traffic o the right shoulder. As the motorcycle proceeded through an intersection, he collided with a red 2017 Mazda CX-5. The Mazda was in the middle of the intersection at the time of the collision. The motorcyclist, a 24-year-old man from Bear, was ejected from his bike and came to rest underneath the Mazda.
The rider, who was not identified, died at the crash scene. His name is being withheld pending family notification. The Mazda driver, a 17-year-old from Middletown, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The road was closed for about four hours while police investigated the collision. During this time, drivers were told to use caution and to find alternate routes of travel.
The accident remains under investigation. No additional details are available.
