According to police, Caitlynn Mithcell was stopped in the southbound lane of Wheatleys Pond Road, waiting to turn left onto Mount Friendship Road. As she was stopped, a tan 2005 Chevrolet Silverado failed to stop behind her. The Silverado rear-ended Mitchell’s car, pushing it into the path of a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep and Mitchell’s Ford Fiesta collided with each other. The Jeep then struck a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro.
Mitchell was rushed to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. She later succumbed to her injuries. The Jeep driver, a 31-year-old Clayton woman, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. No one else was hurt as a result of the accident.
The driver of the Silverado was not immediately identified. There is no word on whether any charges are expected to be filed.
An investigation is ongoing. There is no further information available.
We want to offer our thoughts and condolences to the family of Caitlynn Mitchell following this fatal car accident in Smyrna.
