New Castle, DE (September 29, 2023) – The Delaware State Poice were at the scene of a deadly pedestrian accident in New Castle on Thursday morning, September 28th. The collision happened around 2:00 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Route 141.
According to a report, a 59-year-old man from Wilmington was walking northbound on I-95 when he was hit by a tractor-trailer that was traveling northbound. The pedestrian suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released at this time. The driver of the tractor-trailer fled following the crash. No other injuries were sustained in the accident. The road was closed for several hours following the crash. Motorists were advised to avoid the scene and to find an alternate route of travel if possible.
Police are still investigating. There is no word on whether any charges are expected to be filed. No further information is available.
