Newark, DE (January 5, 2024) – Authorities in Newark have identified the victim of a fatal pedestrian crash that took place on New Year’s Day. The crash was first reported around 6:30 p.m. in the westbound lane of Old Baltimore Pike near Torrington Way.
According to the Delaware State Police, 63-year-old Tammy Orzechowski was walking on Old Baltimore Pike when she was struck by a 2020 Jeep Compass that was traveling in the westbound lane. Orzechowski was critically hurt in the crash. Rescue crews responded but ultimately Orzechowski was pronounced dead at the crash scene. The driver of the Compass, a 28-year-old New Castle woman, was not hurt in the accident. There were no additional vehicles or individuals involved.
The road was closed for several hours while police investigated the accident. There is no further information available at this time.
