Middletown, DE (August 18, 2024) – A fatal wrong-way car crash occurred early Sunday morning on Dupont Parkway, resulting in the deaths of two Smyrna residents. The incident, reported by the Delaware State Police, took place around 12:30 a.m. at the intersection with Harris Road.
According to the Delaware State Police, a blue 2022 Honda Civic was traveling southbound on Dupont Parkway when it was struck by a northbound black 2015 Jeep Wrangler going the wrong direction. The front of the Jeep collided with the Honda in the left southbound lane. The driver of the Honda, a 62-year-old man, and his passenger, a 51-year-old woman, both from Smyrna, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities are being withheld pending family notification.
Emergency responders, including firefighters who assisted with vehicle extraction, worked at the scene, which was closed for approximately four hours for investigation and cleanup. The injured parties were transported to a local hospital.
