New Castle, DE (December 8, 2024) – A fatal pedestrian crash occurred on Saturday night in New Castle, resulting in the death of a 44-year-old man. The Delaware State Police responded to the incident, which took place at approximately 11:16 p.m. on North Dupont Pkwy, just north of Christiana Rd.
According to the Delaware State Police, a Toyota Tacoma was traveling southbound in the right lane when a pedestrian, wearing dark clothing, entered the roadway. The pedestrian walked directly into the path of the Tacoma, and the front of the car hit him. Despite efforts to save him, the pedestrian was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. His identity has not been released pending notification of his family.
The 38-year-old driver of the Tacoma, a man from Smyrna, was not injured in the collision. Emergency responders, including Delaware State Police and fire crews, responded promptly to the scene. The roadway was closed for approximately two hours while authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the area. The incident caused significant traffic disruptions, which were managed by the police to ensure safety and minimize delays for other drivers.
