New Castle Co, DE (January 1, 2025) – A fatal car crash occurred early Wednesday morning claiming the life of a Newark woman and leaving three others injured. The accident took place on I-95 southbound near the I-495 split as paramedics responded to an unrelated incident.
Authorities reported that at approximately 2:30 a.m., a New Castle County Paramedic ambulance with emergency lights activated attempted to change lanes and collided with a Nissan Altima. The Altima’s driver, Kierra West, 33, of Newark, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 6-year-old child, also in the Altima, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Nemours Children’s Hospital.
The ambulance’s driver and passenger, whose identities remain undisclosed, sustained injuries and were taken to Christiana Hospital. Both are currently reported in stable condition.
Firefighters and emergency crews worked diligently to extract the vehicles and clear the crash site. Traffic on I-95 was halted until approximately 9:30 a.m., as authorities managed the scene and ensured the safety of other motorists. The incident remains under investigation by New Castle County Police.
